Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land

Anyone remember this? Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land. I was talking to a co-worker last night at Superfine and remembered this old movie they played for us in Math class in grade school. We agreed that all lessons should be taught by cartoons.

This video was made in 1959 and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary — Short Subjects. Here is the whole thing in 3 segments. Enjoy!

(a hint to Eli: the billiards part is at the end of the second clip and the beginning of the third.)

The Tooth Fairy Kit

This is a lovely design piece, called The Official Tooth Fairy Kit. I remembered seeing this a LONG time ago in Communication Arts or Print or HOW ... so long ago I simply cannot recall. What a genius idea. Apparently they know it, as they have an entire website dedicated to selling this one item. It would clearly be the greatest thing to have. Can you imagine filling it out all throughout your child's life and then giving it to them as an adult (would you save their baby teeth? Or is that too gross?)?

So now I'm perplexed as to whether I should just buy it, or design one of my own. This one is SO GOOD and printed on the letterpress, giving it that fantastic emboss. That would cost a fortune. So unless I think I can design something equally cool (whether the style changes or not), that I could also sell, and have professionally printed (then I'd have to sell at least 500-1000 of them), maybe its better I just buy one. We'll see. Lola's still growing those first teeth, so I have a little time.

Either way, comment on your thoughts, or just admire the lovely job they did. If you want to see more of their work, check out their company website here:

Goldfrapp

Last night Brandon and I went to see Goldfrapp at the Beacon.

We started by having a bite at Nick's and then we had to stop at Grom to share a little of the best gelato in town, then headed on over to the Beacon. It was our first time at that venue and it was fantastic. We had isle seats about 5 rows back on the Loge, and they were perfect.

The show was pretty amazing. It was a tad short (just over an hour), but they all had colds, so I think they probably did the best they could, considering. She sounded great, and they played some great songs.

Here's one of her videos...i love this video...

Paul Simon

So my friend Jill stopped by my desk today and told me something I was ashamed to not already know. Paul Simon is playing at BAM throughout April, performing different albums. I told her that I would pay good (lots of) money to see him do Graceland. And so she called and we got tickets to the African Skies performance for next weekend! I can't even believe it! And they weren't nearly as expensive as I originally had thought they would be.

Then, I turned around and told Giselle about this, and she said Kay and she have tickets to the same show!

Sooo excited. No words for it. David Byrne will be with him, along with the African singers who were on the Graceland album ...

Can it get any better?
